How does Bandgap affect the Properties of Materials?

The size of the bandgap affects the behavior of materials. Insulators have a large bandgap, which requires a significant amount of energy for electrons to transition from the valence band to the conduction band. Semiconductors have a smaller bandgap, allowing electrons to move more easily. Conductors have a minimal or zero bandgap, enabling electrons to move freely between the valence and conduction bands.
