LPDDR4(Low-Power Double Data Rate 4)

LPDDR4, which stands for Low-Power Double Data Rate 4, is a type of dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) used in various electronic devices, including mobile phones, tablets, and laptops. Here are the key specifications of LPDDR4:

Data Rate

LPDDR4 memory offers different data rates, including LPDDR4-1600, LPDDR4-1866, LPDDR4-2133, LPDDR4-2400, LPDDR4-2666, and LPDDR4-3200. These rates are measured in MT/s (mega transfers per second).

Memory Capacity

LPDDR4 chips are available in various capacities, ranging from 2GB to 16GB or more, depending on the specific device and configuration.

Low Power

LPDDR4 is designed for low power consumption, making it well-suited for battery-powered devices. It operates at lower voltage levels, helping to conserve energy.

Improved Bandwidth

LPDDR4 offers increased memory bandwidth compared to its predecessors, LPDDR3 and LPDDR2. This allows for faster data access and improved overall system performance.

16n Prefetch

LPDDR4 uses a 16n prefetch architecture, which allows for more efficient data transfer and access.

Burst Length

LPDDR4 supports burst lengths of 16 or 32. Burst length refers to the number of data words that can be transferred in a single burst.

Bank Groups

LPDDR4 memory is organized into bank groups, which can help improve memory access and efficiency in multitasking scenarios.

Low Latency

LPDDR4 memory offers low latency, ensuring quick access to data when needed by the processor.

On-Die ECC

Some LPDDR4 memory modules may include on-die error-correcting code (ECC) capabilities to detect and correct memory errors, enhancing data reliability.

Package Options

LPDDR4 memory is available in various package options, including standard DRAM modules and smaller packages suitable for mobile and compact devices.

Wide Adoption

LPDDR4 has been widely adopted in mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops, due to its combination of low power consumption and improved performance.

Thermal Management

LPDDR4 memory may include features for thermal management to prevent overheating and maintain stable performance.

It’s important to note that specific LPDDR4 memory modules or chips may have variations in their specifications, so it’s advisable to refer to the manufacturer’s datasheets and documentation for precise details when selecting or designing with LPDDR4 memory. Additionally, LPDDR4 memory is often integrated into system-on-chip (SoC) designs and customized to meet the requirements of specific devices and applications.
