Advantages of FinFET over planner CMOS

FinFET technology, short for “Fin Field-Effect Transistor,” has several advantages over the traditional planar CMOS technology

Here are five Advantage over Advantages of FinFET over planner CMOS,

Better Short Channel Control

FinFETs have a three-dimensional structure that wraps around the gate, this offers better gate control over the channel, which reduces short-channel effects such as Drain Induced Barrier Lowering (DIBL) and subthreshold leakage.

Reduced Leakage Current

FinFETs significantly reduce leakage current due to the use of a double-gate structure. This means less power is wasted, which makes FinFETs more power-efficient than their planar counterparts.

Lower Voltage Operation

FinFETs can operate at lower supply voltages while maintaining performance due to their better short-channel control. This again contributes to lower power consumption. 4. Higher Performance: FinFETs can deliver higher levels of performance and faster switching than planar FETs due to their structure and superior control of the channel.

Scaling

FinFETs are more scalable due to their three-dimensional structure, meaning they can continue to be manufactured at smaller sizes without as many performance issues as planar FETs. This extends the life of Moore’s Law, allowing for the continued miniaturization of transistors.
